The Casino de Madrid (in Spanish: Casino de Madrid) is a famous building in Madrid, Spain. You can find it at number 15 on Calle de Alcalá. It started in 1836 as a special social club. The idea was to create a peaceful place where members could meet and relax, away from politics. In 1993, it was officially recognized as an important cultural site called Bien de Interés Cultural.

History of the Casino de Madrid

The year 1836 is when the club officially began. This was when it first got its own rules and guidelines. The Casino de Madrid was created during a time when many new social clubs were starting in Europe. These clubs were different from older, more formal groups.

At first, the Casino moved to different places in central Madrid. Its name also changed a few times. It started as just "Casino," then became "Casino del Príncipe," and finally "Casino de Madrid." Over time, the club's meeting places became more elegant and fancy.

A New Home on Calle de Alcalá

In 1910, after five years of building, the Casino de Madrid moved to its current home on Calle de Alcalá. By this time, the club had grown to have a thousand members. This new building was very grand and beautifully decorated. It offered many fancy services to its members.

The Casino became a popular spot for important people in Madrid. It was a place where they could meet, talk, and make connections.

Modern Times at the Casino

Towards the end of the 20th century, the Casino faced some challenges. To keep it going, the club changed how it was managed. Now, a company called Gran Círculo helps run some of its services. This means the building hosts private events and celebrations, alongside the activities for club members.

In 1993, the building and everything inside it were declared a "Bien de Interés Cultural." This means it's a very important historical and cultural site. Today, the Casino de Madrid is a busy place. It hosts many social events, like parties, conferences, and official visits, while still being a club for its members.
