Caspar Hennenberger (born in 1529, died in 1600) was a talented German man who wore many hats! Caspar Hennenberger was an important figure in the 1500s. He helped people understand the world around them through his maps and historical writings.

Early Life and Studies

Caspar Hennenberger was born in a place called Erlich in Franconia, Germany. In 1550, when he was about 21 years old, he began studying to become a Lutheran pastor. He went to the University of Königsberg, which was located in the region of Prussia.

A Life as a Pastor

After finishing his studies, Caspar started working as a pastor in 1554. He served in several towns, including Georgenau and Domnau. Around 1561, he moved to Mühlhausen. He worked there as a Lutheran pastor for nearly 30 years.

Mapping Prussia

Caspar Hennenberger loved maps and history. He received help from Duke Albert of Prussia, who was a powerful ruler. He also worked with mathematicians like Nicolaus Neodomus. With their support, Caspar created the very first detailed map of Prussia in 1576.

He also wrote important books about the region:

  • In 1584, he published "Kurze und wahrhaftige Beschreibung des Landes zu Preussen." This means "Short and truthful description of the land Prussia."
  • In 1594, he wrote "Erklärung der preußischen größeren Landtafeln oder Mappen." This book helped explain his larger maps of Prussia.

Later Years and Legacy

In 1590, Caspar Hennenberger became the pastor of a large hospital in Königsberg-Löbenicht. He continued his work there until he passed away in 1600. He was buried in the church of the hospital. Caspar Hennenberger's maps and writings helped people learn more about the geography and history of Prussia.
