The Story of Casper's Ice Cream
How It All Started
Casper's Ice Cream began in 1925. A man named Casper Merrill (1902-1999) started it. He used milk and cream from his family's farm. He made the very first ice cream sundaes on a stick.
These first treats were called Casco Nut Sundaes. He made them in a big 10-gallon milk can. Casper Merrill sold these tasty bars at a 4th of July event. Later, he created the first FatBoy ice cream sandwich. It was much bigger than other ice cream treats.
Family Business Today
Casper Merrill passed away in 1999. He was 96 years old. Today, his grandsons own and run the company. Casper's Ice Cream is part of a program called Utah's Own. This program helps support local products in Utah.
FatBoy and Racing
In October 2020, FatBoy Ice Cream sponsored a NASCAR race car. The driver was J. J. Yeley. In the first race with the FatBoy car, Yeley had a crash. Luckily, he was not hurt.
Casper's Ice Cream used this event in a fun way. They sold pieces of the crashed car that Yeley signed. FatBoy continued to sponsor race cars after that. Yeley even raced in the 2020 Season Finale 500 with the FatBoy design on his car.
