Cassius Xavier-Lamarr Winston (born February 28, 1998) is an American professional basketball player. He plays as a point guard for Pallacanestro Reggiana in Italy. Before becoming a pro, he played college basketball for the Michigan State Spartans.

High School Basketball Star
Cassius Winston was a top player at University of Detroit Jesuit High School and Academy in Detroit. He was a 6-foot-1 point guard. In his final year, 2016, he led his team to win the MHSAA Class A State Championship. That same year, he was named Mr. Basketball of Michigan, which is a big honor for high school players. In 2020, he was even added to the Catholic High School League Hall of Fame.
College Career Highlights

Freshman and Sophomore Years
As a freshman, he played in 35 games. He averaged 6.7 points and 5.2 assists per game. In his second year, he became a regular starter. He averaged 12.6 points and 6.9 assists. He also earned third-team All-Big Ten Conference honors.
Junior Year Success
Before his junior season, Cassius was picked for the preseason All-Big Ten team. He had a great start to the year. He was even named to the watch list for the John R. Wooden Award. This award goes to the best college basketball player. He led the Spartans to win the 2019 Big Ten men's basketball tournament. He was named the Big Ten tournament Most Outstanding Player for his amazing performance.
On March 11, 2019, Cassius was named the Big Ten Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Year. This means he was the best player in the Big Ten Conference. On March 31, 2019, he scored 20 points and had 10 assists. This helped his team win a close game against Duke. This win happened in the Elite Eight of the 2019 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament.
Senior Year Achievements
Before his senior year, Cassius was named a preseason All-American. He was the only player to get this honor from the Associated Press (AP). On January 5, 2020, he scored a career-high 32 points. He also had nine assists in a big win against Michigan. On January 17, he broke a Big Ten record. He passed Mateen Cleaves for the most career assists. At the end of the season, he was named to the First Team All-Big Ten. As a senior, he averaged 18.3 points and 5.9 assists per game.
Professional Basketball Journey
Starting in the NBA
On November 18, 2020, Cassius was picked by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the 2020 NBA draft. He was the 53rd overall pick. His rights were then traded to the Washington Wizards. On November 28, 2020, he signed a special two-way contract with them. This contract allows players to play for both an NBA team and its G League affiliate.
Since the Wizards' G League team, the Capital City Go-Go, didn't play that season, Cassius joined the Erie BayHawks. He made his debut in the NBA G League on February 10, 2021. He signed another two-way contract with the Wizards on August 19, 2021. During the 2021–2022 season, he played in 7 games for the Wizards. He also joined the Philadelphia 76ers for the 2022 NBA Summer League.
Playing in Europe
After his time in the NBA, Cassius moved to play basketball in Europe.
- On July 28, 2022, he signed with the German club Bayern Munich. He helped them win the German Cup in 2023.
- On July 18, 2023, he joined Tofaş in Turkey.
- On July 19, 2024, he signed a two-year deal with Pallacanestro Reggiana in Italy. He continues to play there today.
