The Castle of Aranda de Moncayo is an old fortress from the 12th century. It stands in Aranda de Moncayo, a town in Spain. This amazing castle is officially recognized as a special cultural site. This means it's very important to history and heritage.
History of the Castle
The Castle of Aranda de Moncayo is built on a high hill. From this spot, you can see all the land around it. This made it a perfect place to watch for enemies.
Building the Castle
The castle you see today was built in the 12th century. It was constructed by a Muslim emirate. An emirate was a land ruled by an emir, a type of leader. This was during the early years of the Reconquista. The Reconquista was a long period when Christian kingdoms in Spain fought to take back land from Muslim rulers.
Important Location
The castle stayed important for many years. This was because of fights between two big kingdoms: Castile and Aragon. These kingdoms were often in conflict in the 14th century.
In 1363, the Kingdom of Castile captured the castle. Later, in 1366, the castle came under the control of the Order of Sant Jordi d'Alfama. This was a special group of knights. By 1373, the castle was given to a noble family called Toda de Luna.
