What is the Castle of Barcience?
The Castle of Barcience is a historic fortress. It was built from the ground up in the 15th century. This means it is over 500 years old! It stands on a small hill, which helped its defenders see enemies coming from far away.
A Look at the Castle's Design
The main part of the castle is shaped like a rectangle. It has different types of towers at its corners. You can see two round towers on the west side. On the east side, there are two square towers. The largest of these square towers is in the northeast corner.
One special detail on a tower is a carved image. It shows a lion rampant. This means a lion standing on its back legs, ready to fight. This lion was the special symbol, or sigil, of the House of Silva family. Families used these symbols to show who they were.
