Where is the Castle of Quel?
The Castle of Quel sits on top of a hill. One side of the hill has gentle slopes. The other side has very steep slopes. This made it a great spot for a castle.
The castle is over 100 metres (330 ft) tall. From this height, guards could see far away. They could also send signals to other castles. These included the Castle of Autol and the Castle of Arnedo. Being on a hilltop helped protect the castle. Soldiers only had to defend three sides if someone attacked. The steep slopes protected the fourth side naturally.
What does the Castle of Quel look like?
The Castle of Quel has two main parts. These are the tall main tower and the strong walls.
The Main Tower
The main tower is the tallest part of the castle. It was likely used for watching out. It also served as a strong place to defend.
The Castle Walls
Strong walls surround the castle. These walls helped protect everyone inside. They were built to keep enemies out.
