The Castle of Turégano (Spanish: Castillo de Turégano) is a very old fortress. You can find it in the town of Turégano in the province of Segovia, Spain. This castle was built on the spot where an even older fort once stood. What makes it special is that its structure is connected to the nearby San Miguel church.

A Look at Its History

The Castle of Turégano has stood for a very long time. It was first built on the site of an even older fortress. This shows how important this location has been throughout history.

A Famous Prisoner

In the year 1585, the castle was used as a prison. A man named Antonio Pérez was held there. He was once a very important secretary to King Philip II. However, he had fallen out of favor with the king.

An Escape Attempt

Some people tried to help Antonio Pérez escape from the castle. A group led by Álamos de Barrientos tried to free him. But their plan did not work, and he remained a prisoner.
