The Cataraqui Centre is a large shopping mall in Kingston, Ontario, Canada. It used to be called "Cataraqui Town Centre." This mall is the biggest one in southeastern Ontario. It has more than 141 different stores for people to visit.

A very important store in the mall is Hudson's Bay. Malls often have one or more large, well-known stores called "anchor stores." These big stores help attract many shoppers. There is also an empty space where another big store, Sears, used to be. The Cataraqui Centre is also a main stop for Kingston Transit buses. This makes it easy for people to get there.

Discover the Main Stores

The Cataraqui Centre has several large and popular stores. These are often called "anchor stores" or "major stores." They are usually bigger than other shops in the mall. These stores help bring many people to the mall.

Here are some of the main stores you can find:

  • Hudson's Bay (a big department store)
  • H&M (a popular clothing store)
  • Sport Chek (a store for sports gear and clothing)
  • Shoppers Drug Mart (a place to buy health and beauty items)
  • Indigo Books (a large book and gift store)

A Look Back at the Mall's History

The Cataraqui Town Centre first opened its doors in September 1982. When it was new, it had two levels. It also had big stores like Simpsons and Zellers. There was even a Loblaws supermarket inside.

Over the years, some of these stores changed. In 1986, the Simpsons store became The Bay. This was another store from the same company, the Hudson's Bay Company. In 1999, a new Sears store opened at the mall. This new store was part of a big addition to the mall. The inside of the mall also got a new look. The escalators and the food court were moved to new spots.

In 2001, Loblaws moved to a new location across the street. The space where Loblaws used to be was then changed. It became a bigger food court, a Shoppers Drug Mart, and a Sport Chek store. In 2013, Zellers was replaced by a store called Target. However, Target closed its doors in 2015.
