Catarina Furtado (born August 25, 1972) is a famous television presenter and actress from Portugal. She is also a UNFPA Goodwill Ambassador, which means she helps the United Nations Population Fund. Catarina was born in Lisbon, the capital city of Portugal. Her father, Joaquim Furtado, was a well-known journalist for RTP, a big TV and radio company in Portugal.

Catarina's Career in TV and Film

Catarina started her career in television in the early 1990s. She has worked for major TV channels like SIC and RTP. She also worked on radio stations such as Rádio Comercial and RDP Antena 3.

When she was younger, Catarina had a small part in a movie called Non, ou a Vã Glória de Mandar. This film was directed by the famous Manoel de Oliveira. Later, she acted in other movies too. These included Killing Time, an English movie shown at the Cannes Film Festival. She also appeared in Fatima, an Italian film, and Portuguese movies like Anjo da Guarda.

Catarina became very popular as a presenter on the TV show Top + on RTP. This show played popular music videos and showed the weekly national record chart, which lists the most popular songs. Her success on Top + led her to host an MTV Portugal program on the SIC network. This was years before MTV Portugal officially started. She then hosted many different shows, including Treasure Hunt (Caça ao Tesouro) on SIC. For this show, Catarina would often arrive in a helicopter in small towns across Portugal.

A big moment in her career was on January 8, 2018. She was chosen as one of the four hosts for the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. She hosted this big music event alongside Sílvia Alberto, Daniela Ruah, and Filomena Cautela.

Catarina's Personal Life

Catarina studied dance at the Conservatório Nacional until 1990. She also trained to be a journalist. From 1995 to 1997, she studied drama at the International School of Acting in London. She also learned acting at Lee Strasberg's Method Studio in England.

Catarina was married to João Reis, who is an actor, from 2005 to 2023. They have two children: a daughter named Maria Beatriz, born in 2006, and a son named João Maria, born in 2007.
