The Cathedral of Ayacucho is a very old and beautiful church in Ayacucho, Peru. It's also known as the Huamanga Cathedral. This special building belongs to the Catholic Church. In 1972, it was named a Historic Cultural Heritage of the Nation of Peru. This means it's a really important historical place for Peru! You can find it right in the main square, called the Plaza de Armas.
It was built using pink stone in the middle and gray stone for its tall towers. Construction started a long time ago, in 1632, and finished in 1672. Many people think it's one of the prettiest cathedrals in Peru. Its inside is decorated in a fancy style called Churrigueresque. It is the biggest and most important church in Ayacucho.

Building Style and Features
The Cathedral of Ayacucho is built in the Baroque style. This style is known for being grand and decorative. The church has four main doors with arches. Three of these doors are on the front of the building. One more door is on the north side.
Front of the Cathedral
The main door at the front has special columns on each side. These are called Corinthian columns. Between these columns, you can see two small spaces called niches. Inside these niches are statues of two important figures: Saint Peter and Saint Paul.
Towers and Inside
The cathedral has two towers at the back. The tower on the south side is made of stone. The tower on the north side is made of brick and lime. Both towers have arches. They have one arch on the longer sides and two arches on the shorter sides.
Inside, the cathedral has three main sections called naves. These sections have 16 high, arched ceilings called vaults. There is also a beautiful dome with eight sides.
Holy Week Procession
This cathedral is very important for the city's traditions. On Easter Sunday, a special parade called the procession of the Risen Christ starts from this church. This event marks the end of Holy Week in Ayacucho.
