Salta Cathedral (Spanish: Catedral Basílica de Salta, Catedral de Salta) is a very important Roman Catholic church in Salta, Argentina. It serves as the main church for the Archbishop of Salta. This beautiful building is dedicated to Jesus Christ, known as the “Lord of Miracles,” and to the Blessed Virgin Mary, called “Our Lady of the Miraculous Rosary.”
In 1899, Pope Leo XIII made a special announcement. He said that the two main images inside the cathedral, the Lord of Miracles and Our Lady of the Miraculous Rosary, were very important. A special ceremony to honor these images took place on September 13, 1902.
The cathedral was officially opened to the public on October 20, 1918. Later, on June 14, 1941, the Government of Argentina declared it a national monument. This means it is a protected historical site.
