This beautiful building has a style called neoclassical. Inside, it holds many old paintings from the Cusco School. This was a famous group of artists from the city of Cusco. The cathedral is also the main church for the Archbishop of Huancayo. This means it's where the head of the Catholic Church in that region works.

History of Huancayo Cathedral

The cathedral was first called Matriz Cathedral. It was built on land that kind neighbors donated. Construction started on March 18, 1799. It took many years to finish, finally opening on March 18, 1831.

In 1955, something special happened. Pope Pius XII issued a special order, called a "bull." This order officially made the church a Cathedral. This made it even more important than other churches in Huancayo. The cathedral is dedicated to the Holy Trinity. The city of Huancayo itself was dedicated to the Holy Trinity way back in 1572.
