Cathee Dahmen (born Catherine Helen Sachs, September 16, 1945 – November 25, 1997) was a famous American model. She made history as the first Native American supermodel. This happened during the 1960s and 1970s.

Cathee was half German and half Chippewa. She grew up in Minnesota, a state in the United States.

Cathee's Modeling Journey

Cathee Dahmen left her home when she was 17 years old. She went to live with her uncle, George Morrison, who was an artist. They lived in Providence, Rhode Island.

A famous illustrator named Antonio Lopez discovered her. He saw a painting her uncle had made of her. This led to Cathee starting her career in the fashion world.

Becoming a Top Model

Cathee spent her most successful years with Ford Models. This was a very well-known modeling agency. She was one of their highest-earning models in the 1960s.

She appeared on the covers of many popular fashion magazines. These included Harper's Bazaar in 1968. She was also on the covers of UK Vogue and Italia in 1971. Cathee was also part of the "Youthquake" movement. This was a big change in fashion and culture during the 1960s.

Her Family Life

Cathee Dahmen grew up in South Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Life in London and New York

Later, Cathee married a young British actor named Leonard Whiting. She then moved to London, England. There, she continued her modeling career with Models 1.

Cathee and Leonard had a daughter named Sarah Beth Whiting in 1972. Cathee and Leonard later divorced.

In 1977, Cathee married singer Alan Merrill. She moved with him to New York from London in 1980. Cathee and Alan had two children together. Their names were Laura Ann Sachs and Allan Preston Sachs Jr. The couple later divorced.

Cathee stopped modeling in the 1980s. She passed away in 1997 and was survived by her three children.
