Catherine Frot (born May 1, 1956) is a famous French actress. She has been nominated for the César Award (a big French film award) ten times! She won the award for Best Actress for her role in the movie Marguerite (2015). She also won Best Supporting Actress for Family Resemblances (1996). Some of her other well-known movies include Le Dîner de Cons (1998), La Dilettante (1999), and Haute Cuisine (2012).
Early Life of Catherine Frot
Catherine Frot was born in Paris, France. Her father was an engineer, and her mother was a mathematics teacher. Her younger sister, Dominique, also became an actress.
Catherine showed a talent for comedy when she was young. At 14, she joined the Versailles conservatory. This is a special school for music and arts. Later, she studied full-time at the conservatory.
Catherine Frot's Acting Career
In 1975, Catherine Frot started her acting journey. She performed at the Festival d'Avignon, a famous arts festival. She helped create a group called the Compagnie du Chapeau Rouge (Red Hat Company).
She focused most of her energy on theater plays. She acted in many classic plays. These included La Cerisaie in 1982 and La Mouette in 1985.
Catherine Frot also became very successful in movies. In 1996, she won a César Award for Best Supporting Actress. This was for her role as Yolande in the movie Family Resemblances. Yolande was a sweet but silly wife.
She also played a funny and rebellious character in La Dilettante (1999). For this role, she won the Best Actress Award at the 21st Moscow International Film Festival. She was also nominated for a César Award for Best Actress.
In 2015, she won the César Award for Best Actress for her role in Marguerite. This is one of the highest honors for an actress in France.
Catherine Frot has received special honors from France. She is an officer of the Ordre national du Mérite. This is a national award given for special achievements.
