Cayo Levantado is a small island in Samaná Bay, found in the eastern part of the Dominican Republic. It's a very popular spot for tourists. The closest airport, Samaná El Catey International Airport, is about 68 kilometers away. There's even a fancy five-star hotel on the island!
People sometimes call it Bacardi Island. This is because it was used in advertisements for Bacardi, a company that makes a type of drink called rum.
Island Geography
The highest point on Cayo Levantado is about 26 meters (85 feet) above the sea. The island stretches about 0.5 kilometers from north to south. It is about 0.9 kilometers wide from east to west.
The island has a Tropical rainforest climate. This means it's warm and wet most of the time. The average temperature all year is about 24 °C (75 °F). September is usually the warmest month, with temperatures around 26 °C (79 °F). January is the coolest, at about 22 °C (72 °F).
Cayo Levantado gets a lot of rain, about 1,927 millimeters (76 inches) each year. May is the wettest month, with about 281 mm (11 inches) of rain. February is the driest, getting only about 59 mm (2.3 inches) of rain.
You can spot different kinds of birds on the island. These include pelicans, frigatebirds, and egrets.
