Where Was Cedargrove?
Location in the Ozarks
Cedargrove was located in the northwest part of Shannon County. It was right on the Current River, which is a famous river in the Ozarks. You could find it just north of where a smaller stream called Big Creek joins the Current River. The town was also close to the border of Dent County and Texas County. To get there, you would travel to the very end of a road called Missouri Route B.
A Brief History of Cedargrove
The story of Cedargrove began in 1890 when a post office was first opened there. At first, it was called "Cedar Grove." But in 1895, its name was officially changed to "Cedargrove." The post office served the community for many years, but it finally closed its doors in 1957. After that, the town slowly became empty, turning into the ghost town it is today.
How Did Cedargrove Get Its Name?
The town got its name from the nature around it! There was a group of cedar trees growing close to where the town was first built. These beautiful trees gave the community its unique name.
