Cedric Scott Hunter was born on March 10, 1988. He is an American former professional baseball player. He played as an outfielder, usually in center field. Cedric played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the San Diego Padres and the Philadelphia Phillies.

Cedric Hunter's Baseball Journey

Starting with the Padres

Cedric Hunter was chosen by the San Diego Padres in the third round of the 2006 Major League Baseball Draft. This was a big step for him! By 2009, many experts thought he was the best young player (or "prospect") for the Padres.

After the 2010 season, the Padres added Cedric to their main roster. This helped protect him from being picked by other teams. On March 28, 2011, it was announced that he would be on the Padres' team for Opening Day. This is the first game of the baseball season. On Opening Day, March 31, Cedric scored his first run for the Padres. This happened when he was playing against the St. Louis Cardinals. He ran home from second base after a hit by Nick Hundley.

Playing for Other Teams

After his time with the Padres, Cedric moved to a few other teams. He was picked up by the Oakland Athletics in October 2011. Then, in April 2012, Oakland traded him to the St. Louis Cardinals. He played for their minor league team, the Memphis Redbirds.

Later, Cedric signed a deal with the Cleveland Indians in November 2012. This deal also invited him to their spring training. In February 2014, he signed a similar deal with the Atlanta Braves. He became a free agent in November 2015, meaning he could sign with any team.

Back to the MLB with the Phillies

On January 4, 2016, Cedric signed a minor league deal with the Philadelphia Phillies. He was also invited to their spring training. Because some other outfielders were hurt, and Cedric played very well in spring training, he made the Phillies' Opening Day roster. This meant he would get to play regularly in the outfield.

After the 2016 season, Cedric became a free agent again.

Independent and Mexican League Baseball

Cedric continued his baseball career in other leagues. In April 2017, he signed with the Cincinnati Reds for their minor league team. He played 14 games for the Triple-A Louisville Bats.

In July 2017, Cedric joined the Kansas City T-Bones. This team is part of the American Association of Independent Professional Baseball. This league is not part of Major League Baseball.

In March 2018, Cedric signed with the Bravos de León in the Mexican League. He played very well there! In the first half of the season, he hit 12 home runs and had 51 RBIs (runs batted in). In the second half, he hit 7 home runs and had 38 RBIs. He kept playing for León in 2019, hitting 19 home runs and getting 81 RBIs.
