The Centenario Bridge (which means Centenary Bridge in Spanish) is a special type of bridge called a cable-stayed bridge. You can find it in Seville, a city in Spain. This bridge helps people cross over the left part of the Guadalquivir River.

Building the Centenario Bridge

The Centenario Bridge was built as part of big plans for the Expo '92. This was a huge world's fair held in Seville. Building the bridge started in 1989 and finished quickly in 1991.

How Big is the Bridge?

The Centenario Bridge is part of the SE-30 ring-road around Seville. The whole bridge is 565 meters long. Its main section, which is the longest part between two supports, is 265 meters long. The tallest part of the bridge reaches 102 meters high. It crosses the river close to the Batán harbor, which is part of the Port of Seville.

The bridge has five different sections that measure: 48 meters, 102 meters, 265 meters (the main span), 102 meters, and 48 meters. It uses 88 strong cables to hold up the main part of the bridge. These cables are like giant ropes that support the road.

When Did the Bridge Open?

The Centenario Bridge first opened to traffic on November 15, 1991. When it first opened, it only had two lanes for cars on each side. Because of this, it quickly became a very busy spot where traffic often slowed down.
