How Centennial Became Part of Portland
Before Centennial was officially part of Portland, it was counted as a special area. This happened in 1980. At that time, about 22,118 people lived there.
Later, in 1990, Centennial was part of a larger area called Powellhurst-Centennial. The total population for this combined area was 28,756 people. Eventually, Centennial became a neighborhood within the city of Portland.
