How Center Got Its Name

The name "Center" came from a person! It was named after a Mr. Center, who worked for the railroad.

Becoming an Official Town

For a period, Center was officially recognized as a town.

  • In 1906, the Georgia General Assembly decided to make Center an official "Town of Center." The General Assembly is like the state's main law-making group.
  • However, the town's official status, called its charter, was formally ended in 1995. After that, it went back to being an unincorporated community.
