It is known as an "unincorporated community," which means it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. A Look Back in Time: Center Point's History
When Howard County was first created in 1873, Center Point was chosen as its main town. This meant it was the "county seat," serving as the center for government and important activities.
However, things changed when the first railroad in the county was built. The railroad went through Nashville, a different town, and bypassed Center Point. Because railroads were very important for travel and trade back then, the county seat was moved to Nashville in 1884.
