The Center for the Arts Eagle Rock is a special building in Eagle Rock, California. It used to be known as the Eagle Rock Branch Library. This historic building shows off beautiful Mission Revival and Spanish Colonial Revival styles. Today, it's a lively place for art and culture in Los Angeles.

A Library for the Community

This building first opened its doors in 1915. It was built as a Carnegie library. Andrew Carnegie was a very rich man who helped build many libraries across the United States. These libraries were meant to give everyone a chance to read and learn.

The library was first called the Eagle Rock Carnegie Library. In 1927, the building was rebuilt. It then became part of the Los Angeles Public Library system. It served the Eagle Rock community for many years. People could borrow books and learn new things there.

In 1981, the library moved to a new, bigger location. This new building was easier for everyone to access. So, the original Eagle Rock Branch Library building closed its doors as a library.

From Library to Arts Center

After the library moved, the building found a new purpose. In 1997, the Cultural Affairs Department started something new. They created The Eagle Rock Community Cultural Center (ERCCC). Its goal was to bring fun cultural events to the community.

Soon, the group running it changed its name. They became known as the Center for the Arts Eagle Rock (CFAER). This is the name it still uses today. The center is located on Colorado Boulevard in the Eagle Rock area of Los Angeles. It's a place where people can enjoy art, music, and other creative activities.

A Building with History

The Center for the Arts Eagle Rock is important for its history and design. On June 18, 1985, it was named a Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument. This means the city recognizes it as a special landmark.

Later, in 1987, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a list of places across the country that are important to American history. These honors help protect the building. They make sure it stays a special part of the community for many years to come.
