Central is a community in western Carter County, Tennessee, United States. It is also a census-designated place (CDP). A CDP is like a town that doesn't have its own official local government.

In 2020, about 2,114 people lived in Central. It is part of the larger Johnson City area. This area is often called the "Tri-Cities" region, which includes Johnson City, Kingsport, and Bristol.

Central is found in Tennessee, between the cities of Elizabethton and Johnson City. Its exact location is 36°19′23″N 82°17′59″W / 36.32306°N 82.29972°W / 36.32306; -82.29972.

The community covers a total area of about 9.18 square kilometers (3.54 square miles). Almost all of this area is land, with only a very small part being water.
