Cerro Las Minas is the tallest mountain in Honduras. It is found in the western part of the country. This area is called the Lempira Department. It is a wild and quiet place.

In 1987, a special area was made around the mountain. This area is called the Celaque National Park. It protects the mountain and about 266 square kilometers (103 square miles) of land around it.

About Cerro Las Minas

Cerro Las Minas is part of the Cordillera de Celaque mountain range. Local maps sometimes call it "Pico Celaque" and say it is 2,849 meters (9,347 feet) tall. However, newer satellite data suggests it is actually 2,870 meters (9,416 feet) high. This makes it the highest point in all of Honduras.
