What is Loma Larga?
Loma Larga is a hill that stretches for about 10 kilometers (6 miles). It's like a natural border between the cities of Monterrey and San Pedro Garza García. For a long time, people saw it as the line dividing these two cities.
Connecting the Cities
To help people travel between Monterrey and San Pedro Garza García, a special project was completed in the early 2000s. This project was the Loma Larga Tunnel. It goes right under the mountain, making it much easier to get from one city to the other. Before the tunnel, a statue called Diana Cazadora marked the division on a busy road that crossed the hill.
Where is Loma Larga Located?
On its northern side, the Santa Catarina River flows alongside Loma Larga. On its southern side, you can see the tall peaks of the Sierra Madre Oriental mountains.
Life on the Hill
Even though it's a natural feature, many homes and businesses have been built on Loma Larga. It's a busy area. The famous Basílica de Guadalupe, a large church, is also located on this hill, along with other churches.
Broadcasting from Loma Larga
Loma Larga is also important for radio and TV. Some radio stations, like XHRL-FM and XET-AM, have their equipment on the mountain. This helps them send out their signals to people in the area. Other stations use a different mountain nearby called Cerro del Mirador.
