Chai Chidchob (Thai: ชัย ชิดชอบ, RTGS: Chai Chitchop; born 5 April 1928 – died 24 January 2020) was an important Thai politician. He served as the President of the National Assembly of Thailand and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. These are very high positions in the Thai government. He held these roles from May 15, 2008, to May 10, 2011.

Chai Chidchob's Political Journey
Chai Chidchob started his political life at a local level. He was first appointed as a kamnan in Buriram Province. A kamnan is like a chief of a group of villages in Thailand. People in the area knew him well as "Kamnan Chai."
Starting in National Politics
His journey into national politics began in 1957. Chai tried to win a seat in the government for the Democrat Party in Surin. However, he did not win that election.
In 1969, he ran for office again, this time in Buriram. He ran as an independent candidate, meaning he wasn't part of a specific political party at that time. He won this election! After that, he was reelected many times, showing how popular he was with voters.
Political Parties Chai Chidchob Joined
Over the years, Chai Chidchob was part of several different political parties. In 2007, he was elected to the National Assembly of Thailand. He represented the People's Power Party then. Before that, he had been a member of parties like the Justice Unity Party, Chart Thai Party, Solidarity Party, and Thai Rak Thai.
About Chai Chidchob's Life
Chai Chidchob was married to La-ong. They had six children together: five sons and one daughter. One of his sons, Newin Chidchob, also became a well-known politician in Thailand.
Education and Learning
Chai Chidchob finished high school at Surawitthayakhan School in Surin Province. He continued his education and earned a bachelor's degree in political science from Ramkhamhaeng University. He also received another bachelor's degree in agricultural extension and cooperative promotion from Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University.
Chai Chidchob's Passing
Chai Chidchob passed away at his home in Buriram on January 24, 2020.
Special Honors and Awards
Chai Chidchob received several important royal decorations during his life. These are special awards given by the King of Thailand to honor people for their service. They are part of the Honours System of Thailand.
