Chai Hansen facts for kids

Chai Hansen (born Surachai Romruen, February 8, 1989) is an actor from Thailand and Australia. He is well-known for playing Zac in Mako Mermaids. He also played Ilian in The 100 and Jordan Kyle in Shadowhunters.

Early Life

Chai Hansen was born in 1989 on Ko Samui, an island in Thailand. His father, Superut Romruen, is Thai, and his mother, Sandra Hansen, is Australian. When he was seven years old, Chai moved to Australia with his mother and sister, Sarah.

Acting Career

Chai Hansen started his acting journey by joining the cast of the TV series Mako Mermaids in 2011.

Becoming a Merman

In Mako Mermaids, Chai played Zac. From the second season onwards, his character Zac became a merman. He acted alongside Alex Cubis, who also played a merman. Lucy Fry and Isabel Durant played mermaids in the show.

Roles in Popular Shows

Chai Hansen then got a role as Ilian in the fourth season of The 100. This show is about people trying to survive on Earth after a big disaster.

He was also cast as Monkey in The New Legends of Monkey. This show is a new version of the classic story Journey to the West.

In early 2018, Chai joined the cast of Shadowhunters. He played Jordan Kyle, a werewolf character who was trying to make up for past mistakes.

In May 2021, Chai Hansen became a regular actor in the Amazon series Night Sky. He played the character named Jude.

From 2021 to 2025, Chai played Tim Ahern in the ABC series The Newsreader. Tim Ahern was a cameraman in the show. Chai appeared in all three seasons of this series.

In February 2025, it was announced that Chai Hansen would be in the Stan Australia series Watching You.
