Chang Gung University, often called CGU, is a private university located in Guishan District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan. It's a place where students can learn many different subjects.

A Look Back: How CGU Started

From Medical College to University

Chang Gung University first opened its doors in April 1987. Back then, it was known as the Chang Gung Medical College. It focused mainly on medical studies.

In 1993, the school started accepting students for engineering and management programs. Because of this, its name changed to Chang Gung College of Medicine and Technology.

Then, in July 1997, the school became a full university. It was given the name Chang Gung University, which it still uses today.

Working with Other Universities

In February 2011, Chang Gung University teamed up with Arizona State University in the United States. They created an international Biosignatures Center. This center works on finding ways to prevent, detect early, and treat serious diseases like cancer. A famous scientist named Leland H. Hartwell, who won a Nobel Prize, helped lead this center.
