This ranking is created by Shanghai Jiao Tong University in China. It started in 2003 and is updated every year. For a long time, Harvard University has been at the very top. How Universities are Ranked
The Shanghai Ranking uses a special way to decide which universities are the best. It looks at several important things. For example, it counts how many Nobel Prizes people connected to the university have won. These can be professors, researchers, or even students who later won a Nobel Prize.
Key Factors for Ranking
The ranking also checks how many important research papers university scientists have published. They specifically look for papers in two very famous science magazines: Science and Nature. Publishing in these magazines shows that a university is doing top-level research.
