Chapagetti (Korean: 짜파게티) is a popular brand of instant noodles from South Korea. It's made by a company called Nongshim. This tasty noodle dish first came out on March 19, 1984.
Chapagetti was the very first instant noodle in South Korea to taste like jjajangmyeon. Jjajangmyeon is a famous Korean-Chinese noodle dish with a thick, savory black bean sauce. Chapagetti is super popular! It's the second best-selling instant noodle brand in South Korea. Only Shin Ramyun sells more.
The name "Chapagetti" is a fun mix of two words. It comes from "jajangmyeon" (another way to spell jjajangmyeon) and "spaghetti". So, it's like a Korean-style spaghetti! In 2012, people bought so much Chapagetti that sales reached 159.5 billion South Korean won. That was a huge 88% of the market for this type of noodle!
Different Flavors of Chapagetti
Over the years, Nongshim has tried out different versions of Chapagetti.
Shrimp Chapaghetti
In 1986, a new flavor called Shrimp Chapaghetti was released. It had a seafood twist. However, it didn't sell very well. Because of low sales, this shrimp version was later stopped.
Sacheon Chapaghetti
On September 6, 2004, Nongshim launched another new flavor. This one was called Sacheon (Hangul: 사천; Hanja: 四川) cuisine Chapaghetti. Sacheon is also known as Sichuan, a region in China famous for its spicy food. This version brought a spicier taste to the classic Chapagetti.
