Charcas is a small community, or barrio, located in Quebradillas, Puerto Rico. In 2010, about 401 people lived there. Charcas is famous for its special event, the Fiesta de Los Jibaros. This festival happens every December. It shows what country life was like before the 1950s.
History of Charcas
Puerto Rico became a territory of the United States after the Spanish–American War. This happened because of the Treaty of Paris of 1898. In 1899, the U.S. government counted everyone living in Puerto Rico. This count, called a census, found that 330 people lived in Charcas barrio at that time.
