Charles of France, Duke of Berry, (born July 31, 1686 – died May 5, 1714) was a grandson of Louis XIV of France. He was known as the Duke of Berry. For seven years, from 1700 to 1707, he was even in line to become King of Spain. This was because his brother, Philip V of Spain, did not yet have any children.
Charles was born at the famous Palace of Versailles in France. He was the youngest son of Louis, Dauphin of France, who was also known as "le Grand Dauphin". His mother was Maria Anna Victoria of Bavaria.

Life and Family
Marriage to Marie Louise Élisabeth
The Duchess of Orléans suggested that Charles marry her daughter, Marie Louise Élisabeth d'Orléans. Everyone agreed to this plan. The wedding took place on July 6, 1710.
Sadly, Charles and Marie Louise Élisabeth did not have any children who lived past infancy. Charles's wife's grandmother, Elisabeth Charlotte of the Palatinate, gave him a special nickname. She called him "Berry-Bon Cœur", which means "Berry Good Heart". This shows that he was thought to be a kind person.
Children of Charles
Charles and Marie Louise Élisabeth had three children. However, none of them lived for more than a few days.
