Early Life and Training
Charles Byrne was born in Dublin, Ireland, in 1757. When he was younger, he studied art with a painter named Sampson Towgood Roch. Sampson Roch was deaf, and Charles Byrne helped him by acting as his interpreter. This means Byrne helped Roch communicate with others.
His Art and Career
After his training, Charles Byrne opened his own art studio in 1791. His studio was located on Suffolk Street in Dublin. He also worked for a jeweller on Dame Street, where he painted miniatures. These small paintings were often used in jewellery, like lockets. For a short time, Byrne also worked in London, a big city in England.
In 1802, Charles Byrne showed two of his miniature paintings at Parliament House in Dublin. At that time, his address was listed as Exchequer Street.
Later Years and Legacy
Later in his life, Charles Byrne stopped painting professionally. It is thought he faced some personal challenges during this time. He is believed to have passed away in Dublin around 1810. Today, you can see some of his beautiful miniature paintings at the National Gallery of Ireland.
