Charles Dewey Alexander (born October 27, 1897, died 1962) was an American writer. He was well-known for writing short stories and novels, especially for children.

Early Life and Career
Charles D. Alexander was born in Ponca, Nebraska. When he was just two years old, his family moved to the Albany, Oregon area. He went to school in Albany. As a teenager, Charles started working in the printing business. He first worked at his brother's printing shop. Later, he joined the Albany Democrat newspaper.
A Long Career in Printing
Charles Alexander became an expert at using a Linotype machine. This machine was used to set type for printing newspapers. He worked for the Democrat newspaper for 50 years. He retired from his full-time job in February 1962.
His Family Life
Charles Alexander married Margaret Smith in 1917. Margaret passed away in 1958. They had three children together: one son named Charles D. (Larry) and two daughters, Chloris and Ardy.
His Writing Work
Charles Alexander was a very busy writer. He had about 200 short stories published in many different magazines. Some of these popular magazines included The Saturday Evening Post, Detective Fiction Weekly, Ace-High Detective Magazine, Blue Book, and Sunset.
