His Early Life and School Days

Charles was born in 1781 in a small village called Lawshall. His father's name was Frederick Barnwell. When he was 16, Charles went to Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, which is a university. He studied very hard and earned two degrees: a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in 1802 and a Master of Arts (M.A.) in 1805. He was also a "Fellow" at his college for a few years, which means he was a senior member involved in teaching and research.

Working at the British Museum

After his studies, Barnwell lived in different places like Brentwood, Essex and Bath, Somerset. In 1826, he started an important job at the British Museum in London. He became an Assistant Keeper in the Department of Antiquities. This means he helped manage and care for the museum's collection of ancient objects and historical items. He worked there for many years, until 1844. In 1827, he was also made a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, another important group for people who study history and old objects.

His Family

Charles Frederick Barnwell married a woman named Jane Lowry. Her father was a church leader named Rev. John Lowry. Charles and Jane had seven children together. One of their children was named Edward Barnwell, who also became a notable person.
