Charles Ghigna (born August 25, 1946) is a famous American poet and author. He is also known as Father Goose. He has written over 5,000 poems and more than 100 books for both children and adults.

Who is Charles Ghigna?

Charles Ghigna was born in Bayside, Queens, a part of New York City. When he was five years old, his family moved to Fort Myers, Florida.

His Education and Early Career

Charles Ghigna went to Florida Atlantic University. He earned his first degree in 1968. Later, in 1970, he earned a master's degree in education.

In 1974, he became a "poet-in-residence" at the Alabama School of Fine Arts (ASFA). This meant he was a poet who worked at the school. He also taught students how to write creatively.

Later, he worked on a children's TV show called Cabbages and Kings. In 1979, he taught creative writing at Samford University.

Charles Ghigna's Books

Charles Ghigna's first book of poems for adults was called Returning to Earth. It was published in 1989.

Writing for Children

In 1992, he started publishing poetry books especially for children. The next year, he left his teaching job at ASFA. He decided to focus full-time on writing books for children.

He has written many popular children's books. Some of his well-known works include Animal Tracks and A Bad Case of the Giggles.

His Family Life

Charles Ghigna lives in Homewood, Alabama. He lives there with his wife, Debra Ghigna. She is also an author. Their son, Chip Ghigna, is an artist.
