Early Life and Education
Charles Powell studied History and Modern Languages at the University of Oxford in England. For his advanced degree, he wrote about Spain's move to democracy.
After his studies, he worked as a researcher and teacher at several colleges within Oxford University. These included St Antony's College, Oxford, Corpus Christi College, Oxford, and University College, Oxford.
Career in Spain
In 1997, Charles Powell moved to Spain. He became the deputy director of a center called CERI, which was part of the Ortega y Gasset Foundation. This center focused on international relations.
In 2002, he joined the Elcano Royal Institute. This is a very important "think-tank" in Spain. A think-tank is a group of experts who research and give advice on big topics, like how countries get along. Charles Powell is currently the director of this institute.
Since 2002, he has also been a Professor of Contemporary Spanish History. He teaches at the CEU San Pablo University in Madrid. In 2007, he helped create the Fundación Transición Española. This foundation works to preserve the history of Spain's transition to democracy. He was its first director and is now a vice president.
