Early Life and Education
Charles R. Norgle was born in Chicago, Illinois, on March 6, 1937. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957. After his time in the military, he went to Northwestern University. He earned a degree in Business Administration in 1964.
He then continued his education at the John Marshall Law School. There, he earned his law degree, called a Juris Doctor, in 1969.
Career in Law
After finishing law school, Charles Norgle began his career in DuPage County, Illinois. From 1969 to 1971, he worked as an assistant state's attorney. This means he helped represent the government in legal cases.
He then became a deputy public defender from 1971 to 1973. A public defender helps people who cannot afford a lawyer.
Becoming a Judge
Charles Norgle started his judicial career in DuPage County. He became an associate judge in 1973. Later, he served as a circuit judge from 1977 to 1978.
He was an associate judge again from 1978 to 1981. Then, he returned to being a circuit judge from 1981 to 1984.
Federal Judicial Service
On September 10, 1984, President Ronald Reagan nominated Charles Norgle to be a federal judge. He was chosen for a new judge position in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois.
The United States Senate approved his nomination on October 3, 1984. He officially became a judge on October 4, 1984.
