Charles Smart Evans (born in 1778, died on January 4, 1849) was an English musician. He was known for his beautiful singing voice and for writing music.

His Early Musical Journey
Charles Smart Evans started his musical life as a chorister, which means he sang in a choir. He trained under a person named Dr. Edmund Ayrton. By 1808, he became a special singer known as a "gentleman of the Chapel Royal". This was a choir that sang for the royal family.
Evans was also an alto singer in concerts called the "Ancient Concerts" in 1798. An alto sings a lower voice part. He even sang with famous singers like John Braham at the funeral of the well-known composer Carl Maria von Weber in 1826.
His Award-Winning Music
Charles Smart Evans was also a talented composer. He won awards for four of his part-songs from music clubs called the Glee and Catch Clubs. These songs were:
- Beauties, have you seen a toy? (which won in 1811)
- Fill all the glasses (which won in 1812)
- Ode to the Memory of Samuel Webbe (which won in 1817), written for another composer named Samuel Webbe
- Great Bacchus (which won in 1821)
Later in his life, Evans became a Catholic. He joined the choir at the chapel of the Portuguese embassy. He wrote religious songs, including a Magnificat and several motets. Some of his motets were published in a collection by Alfred Novello. Charles Smart Evans also composed many other songs during his career.
