Serving in the First World War
During the First World War, Charles Spring Rice joined the army. He became an officer in the Royal Army Service Corps. He served bravely during the war and left the army in 1919 with the rank of captain.
Becoming a Baron and Politician
In 1937, Charles's father passed away. When this happened, Charles inherited his father's title and became the 5th Baron Monteagle of Brandon.
