Charles Frazier Stanley (born September 25, 1932 – died April 18, 2023) was an American pastor and writer. He was known for leading the First Baptist Church in Atlanta for 49 years. He also started In Touch Ministries, which shared his messages on TV and radio around the world. He was even the president of the Southern Baptist Convention for two years.

Early Life and Education
Charles Stanley was born on September 25, 1932. This was in Dry Fork, Virginia. His father passed away when Charles was only nine months old. His family moved often during his childhood.
When he was 12, Charles became a Christian. By age 14, he knew he wanted to work in Christian ministry. He went to the University of Richmond for his first degree. Later, he studied at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. He also earned advanced degrees from Luther Rice Seminary.
Ministry Work
Stanley joined the First Baptist Church of Atlanta in 1969. He became the main pastor there in 1971.
In 1972, he started a TV show called The Chapel Hour. Then, in 1977, he founded In Touch Ministries. Its goal was to help people grow in their faith and support local churches. The Christian Broadcasting Network began showing In Touch in 1978.
Today, In Touch is available in 50 languages. In the United States, you can hear it on about 500 radio stations. It's also on 300 TV stations and satellite networks. These include The Inspiration Network (INSP) and Trinity Broadcasting Network. You can find his messages and other programs on the In Touch website. The ministry also publishes In Touch magazine. They use radio, TV, magazines, and digital tools to share their message.
Charles Stanley's messages talk about many life topics. These include finances, parenting, and relationships. He strongly believed the Bible is God's true word. This belief was a big part of his teaching.
In 1985, Charles Stanley was chosen to be the president of the Southern Baptist Convention.
In 2007, Stanley started teaching his "30 Life Principles." These were important ideas that guided his life. On September 13, 2020, he retired as the main pastor of First Baptist Church. He became a pastor emeritus, meaning he still had a special role. He also continued his work with In Touch Ministries.

Charles Stanley was an evangelical Christian. This means he believed in sharing the Christian message. He also had specific views about the end times.
He developed "30 Life Principles" that helped him in his faith. He often shared these in books and study guides. One of his most famous principles came from his grandfather. It was: "Obey God and leave all the consequences to Him." Stanley explained this idea with a story. His grandfather told him, "If God tells you to run your head through a brick wall, you head for the wall, and when you get there, God will make a hole for it." This means trusting God completely.
Personal Life
Charles Stanley had a daughter named Becky and a son named Andy Stanley. Andy is also a pastor. He leads the North Point Community Church in Alpharetta, Georgia.
Besides his ministry, Stanley loved photography. Many of his photos were used in In Touch magazine. They also appeared in calendars and other materials from the ministry.
Charles Stanley passed away at his home in Atlanta on April 18, 2023. He was 90 years old.
