Charles Stuart, Duke of Kendal, was a young English prince. He was born on July 4, 1666, and sadly passed away less than a year later, on May 22, 1667. Charles was the third son of James, Duke of York, who later became King James II of England. His mother was Anne Hyde.

A Royal Birth and Short Life

Prince Charles Stuart was born at St James's Palace in London. This palace was an important royal home. His godparents were chosen from important families. They included his older brother, James Stuart, Duke of Cambridge, who was only three years old. Also, his cousin, James Scott, 1st Duke of Monmouth, and Emilia von Nassau, Countess of Ossory, were his godparents.

Charles was given the special title of Duke of Kendal. He was also meant to become the Earl of Wigmore and Baron of Holdenby. However, he passed away before these titles could be officially recorded. He died at St James's Palace when he was only 10 months old. His burial took place at Westminster Abbey on May 30, 1667. Westminster Abbey is a very famous church where many kings, queens, and important people are buried.

The coat of arms for Charles Stuart, Duke of Kendal

Even though Charles was only the grandson of a British king, he received a special coat of arms. This was because his uncle, Charles II of England, did not have any children. It became clear that Charles II would not have an heir. So, young Charles Stuart was given a coat of arms as if he were a son of the king.

His coat of arms showed the symbols of the kingdom. It had a special white stripe with three red circles on it. This design showed his royal connection and his place in the family.
