Charles Tate Regan FRS (born February 1, 1878 – died January 12, 1943) was a very important British scientist. He was an ichthyologist, which means he studied fish. He worked mostly in the early 1900s and spent a lot of time figuring out how to group and classify different types of fish.

About Charles Regan

Charles Regan was born in Sherborne, a town in Dorset, England. He went to Derby School and then studied at Queens' College, Cambridge. In 1901, he started working at the famous Natural History Museum in London.

His Work at the Museum

At the Natural History Museum, Charles Regan became the head of the zoology department. Zoology is the study of animals. Later, he even became the director of the entire museum. He held this important job from 1927 to 1938.

In 1917, Charles Regan was recognized for his amazing scientific work. He became a Fellow of the Royal Society. This is a very special honor for scientists in the United Kingdom.

Charles Regan also helped train other scientists. One of them was Ethelwynn Trewavas, who continued his work at the British Natural History Museum.
