Charles Wynne Nicholls (born October 20, 1831 – died January 24, 1903) was a talented Irish painter. He was known for his paintings of everyday life, historical events, and scenes from the Middle East, which are called Orientalist art.

Charles Wynne Nicholls was born in Dublin, Ireland, on October 20, 1831. His family was middle-class. His father, John Nicholls, was a pharmacist, also known as an apothecary, in Dublin. His mother's name was Martha Craven.

His Art Education

Charles loved art from a young age. He studied painting at the Royal Dublin Society's Schools. He also attended the Royal Hibernian Academy. These were important art schools in Ireland.

Becoming a Professional Artist

In 1859, Charles began to show his artwork. He became a member of the Royal Hibernian Academy. He also regularly showed his paintings at the Royal Academy in London. In 1864, he moved from Ireland to London, England. But he continued to send his paintings to Dublin for exhibitions throughout his life. He lived at 44 Halsey Street in London.

Charles Wynne Nicholls was a very skilled artist. He was part of the Victorian painting style. This style often showed portraits and city scenes.
