Charlie Inukpuk was born in 1941 in a place called Kotak, which is north of Inukjuak. His father, Johnny Inukpuk, was also a well-known artist. Charlie was the oldest son in his family. He started learning how to carve when he was a teenager. He learned by watching his father and other artists in his community.
