Charmaine Bennell facts for kids
Charmaine Bennell is a talented Noongar author and illustrator from Western Australia. She writes books in the Noongar language, which is the language spoken by Indigenous Australians in the South West of Western Australia. Charmaine was born in Pingelly, and later her family moved to Bunbury.
Charmaine used to teach the Noongar language at Djidi Djidi Aboriginal School in Bunbury. She is now studying at university to learn even more about Indigenous Languages and Linguistics. She cares deeply about saving and teaching the Noongar language so that it can be used by many generations to come. While working at Sister Kate's, Charmaine started a special program. It was called 'Languages Other than English'. In this program, she taught the Noongar language. Her biggest goal is to make sure the Noongar language stays strong and is taught to everyone who wants to learn it.
