Charmaine Williams is a Canadian politician who helps make decisions for the province of Ontario. She is a Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for a special area called a "riding" in Brampton. She was first elected in 2022.

She is currently the Associate Minister of Women's Social and Economic Opportunity. This means she works to help women in Ontario have more chances and support in their lives and careers. Charmaine Williams is part of the Progressive Conservative Party of Ontario.

Working for the City (Municipal Politics)

Before she became an MPP, Charmaine Williams worked for her city. In 2018, she ran for a spot on the Brampton City Council. A city council is a group of people who make important decisions for their city, like about parks, roads, and community services.

On October 22, 2018, Charmaine Williams won her election. She received a good number of votes in a race with many other people. When she won, she made history! Charmaine Williams became the first Black woman ever elected to the Brampton City Council. This was a very important moment for the city.

Later, in May 2022, while Charmaine Williams was running for the provincial election, the Brampton City Council tried to choose someone to take her place if she won and left her city job. However, a court later decided that this plan was not allowed by the rules.

Working for the Province (Provincial Politics)

On March 31, 2021, Charmaine Williams was chosen to be the candidate for the Progressive Conservative Party in the Brampton Centre area. This area is called a "riding" in politics.

On June 2, 2022, she won the provincial election. She defeated the person who was already in the job, Sara Singh, and became the MPP for Brampton Centre.

Just a few weeks later, on June 24, she was given an important job in the provincial government. She was named the Associate Minister of Women's Social and Economic Opportunity. This made her the first Black person to be appointed to a cabinet position in an Ontario Progressive Conservative government. A "cabinet" is a group of important ministers who help the Premier run the province.
