Chavimochic facts for kids
The Chavimochic Special Project is a huge system that helps bring water to farms and towns. It's like a giant watering system! This project is located along the coast of the La Libertad Region in northern Peru.
The idea for Chavimochic started way back in the 1960s. It was first managed by a part of the Peruvian government called the National Development Institute (INADE). Later, in 2003, the local government of La Libertad Region took over its management.
What Does Chavimochic Mean?
The name Chavimochic is a special word made from parts of other words. It comes from the first sounds of four important valleys that the project's main water channel crosses. These valleys are:
- Chao
- Viru
- Moche
- Chicama
So, "Cha-vi-mo-chic" is a clever way to remember all four valleys!
The Future of Chavimochic: Stage Three
Since 2012, there have been plans to build the third and final part of the Chavimochic project. This new stage will bring even more water to the Chicama Valley, which is north of the city of Trujillo.
This third stage is very important because it will help water a large and fertile area in the La Libertad region. It will cost a lot of money, about 825 million U.S. dollars. This money will come from both the local government and private companies.
When this stage is finished, it will be a big step forward for the La Libertad region. It will help the region grow even stronger economically, building on the progress it has made in recent years. More water means more farms can grow food, which helps the economy and creates jobs.
