Cheech & Chong are a famous comedy duo. They were started by American Cheech Marin and Canadian Tommy Chong. The duo became very popular in the 1970s and 1980s. They were known for their funny stand-up shows, music, and movies. Their comedy often showed a fun look at the culture of the time.
Comedy Journey
Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong first met in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1968. They started performing comedy shows together. They released many successful comedy albums. They also starred in several movies that became very popular.
Some of their most famous comedy routines and songs include "Earache My Eye" and "Basketball Jones." Other well-known acts are "Santa Claus and His Old Lady" and "Sister Mary Elephant." One of their most famous lines is "Dave's not here." This line comes from their very first album, called Cheech and Chong.
After working together for many years, the duo stopped performing as much in the 1980s. However, they did work together again in 1992. They both lent their voices to characters in the animated movie FernGully: The Last Rainforest.
In 1997, Tommy Chong appeared on Cheech Marin's TV show Nash Bridges. The episode was called "Wild Card." It even had a fun reference to their famous "Dave" comedy skit. Later, in 2000, both comedians voiced characters in the animated TV series South Park. They were in an episode called "Cherokee Hair Tampons." However, they recorded their parts separately.
By 2003, both Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong said they were open to working together again. In September 2008, they officially reunited for a comedy tour. It was called the Light Up America tour. The tour started in Ottawa. They also appeared on a radio show called The Bob & Tom Show. In March 2009, they recorded two shows in San Antonio. These shows were for a DVD release of their reunion tour.
In 2011, Cheech and Chong were special guest stars on The Simpsons. They appeared in an episode called "A Midsummer's Nice Dream." The story in the episode was about the duo splitting up. In the cartoon, Homer even took Tommy Chong's place for a while.
In August 2012, Cheech & Chong performed at the 13th annual Gathering of the Juggalos. This event took place in Cave-in-Rock, Illinois. In February 2014, they appeared on an episode of Tom Green Live. In March 2014, they shared exciting news. They announced they were working on a brand new movie. The writer and director for this movie was Jay Chandrasekhar.
